Obama to reverse limits on stem cell work
WASHINGTON – Reversing an eight-year-old limit on potentially life-saving science, President Barack Obama plans to lift restrictions Monday on taxpayer-funded research using embryonic stem cells.
The long-promised move will allow a rush of research aimed at one day better treating, if not curing, ailments from diabetes to paralysis — research that crosses partisan lines, backed by such notables as Nancy Reagan and the late Christopher Reeve. But it stirs intense controversy over whether government crosses a moral line with such research.

How is this a moral line? I have hypothecial situation for all people against this research. Say you were in a fire at feritily clinic. You could save a 4 year old child or 1000 embryos. Which would you save?

It kills me that people think stem cell research was outlawed or something in the past.

It was. The cell lines that were there before were not good.

I think all this is saying is that the government wasn't funding it. And now will be.

And basic research doesn't get done without the government. I can cite many examples. Business does not take over until something is profitable. Right now we do not even know if the stem cells will work. Why would big business make an investment in it?

i honeslty would save the 4 year old because he is actually born and alive, but i have no problem with this stuff as long as it prevents diseases, but i don't think now is the time to spend on that with the economy being as it is...

I don't see why universities wouldn't fund it then?
The point I was trying to make is the media has portrayed it as the government banning this research which isn't true.
